Katsina leaders and elders in Katsina State on Sunday held a closed door meeting with PresidentMuhammadu Buhari at his Daura country home, Punch newspaper reports. 

Governor Aminu Masari, who led the delegation to the meeting, told journalists that it was to identify with President Buhari’s efforts at re-positioning the country.

He said, “The senior citizens and the opinion leaders were here to show solidarity with Mr. President and to also identify with his hopes and aspirations and with his efforts at putting Nigeria in proper shape.

“Of course, some of the senior citizens who had been opportune toserve the country and are now retired also came to assure him that they will use all their connections to get more support for him.”

Sources at the meeting however revealed that the issue of low response of people in the state to the current voter registration exercise and the recent letter by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, were also discussed.

The sources said President Buhari counselled the elders to mobilise people in their respective areas andtowns for voter registration exercise.

One of the sources also said, “We shall reply Obasanjo’s letter to President Buhari, as we also discussed this at the meeting.”

The meeting, which began at 2.10p.m, ended at about 3.30p.m.

Personalities at the meeting includethe Emir of Daura, Dr. Umar Farouq Umar; Justice Mamman Nasir, who represented the Emir of Katsina; Dr. Kabir Usman, former Senator Aba Alli, former Borno military governor, Col. Abdulmumin Aminu; former Sokoto and Kano military governors, Gen. Ahmad Daku, as well as former Secretary to the defunct FEDECO, Ahmed Kurfi, among others.
