Fire outbreak kill 1, destroys 2 hostels at FGC Daura

The student and teachers of Federal Government College, Daura of Katsina state were devastated by the fire incidence that affected Umar Faruq Male hostel in the morning hours of Thursday while classes were ongoing. The fire destroyed the hostel and all the materials therein including foodstuffs, reading materials and other stuffs. One student also lost his life.

The deceased, Haruna Ridwan, is a final year student from Funtua local government. Katsina post gathered that he is a religious and good student  who fasts on Monday and Thursdays and also died while fasting.

The corpse of the deceased has been taken to the mortuary and have since informed his parent who are on their way to Daura for the burial rites.

After the incidence, another fire broke out on the female hostel at around 2pm but was successfully brought down. In an effort to stop the fire, two students; Mukhtar Hamisu( SS2 )and Sadiq Abubakar (SS3) sustained injuries. Mukhtar was affected by the smoke and have since taken to the hospital and responding to treatment. While Sadiq burnt his hand.

The teachers told Katsina post that the school brought  relief materials including mattress and bucket to be distributed to the affected students as well as further assistance from the government.

The cause of the inferno is yet to be ascertain as at time of filing this report. The state government send a delegation of officials from the ministry of education to assessed the incidence.
