The Independent National Electoral Commission has yesterday, Saturday declared Honourable Mansur Ali Mashi of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), as the winner of the supplementary election into the Mashi/Dutsi Federal constituency.
The returning officer, Professor Hudu Ayuba, announced that Mansur Ali Mashi of the APC scored 2,567 votes while the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate, Honourable Nazifi Yusuf scored 893 votes in the 15 poling units that the rerun took place.
It could be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Mansur Ali of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the bye-election conducted in Mashi/Dutsi federal constituency conducted in May 2017.
Hudu Ayuba, the returning officer to the election, who announced the results in Mashi then, said APC won the election with 27,968 votes while Nazif Yusuf of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 19,451 votes while Kabir Abdullahi of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) polled 332 votes.
However, the election was nullified by the Federal Court of Appeal in Kaduna due to “substantial non compliance with election rules and regulations”.
The Court of Appeal upheld the decision of the tribunal and ordered supplementary election in the 15 polling units.
