Katsina United sets to maintain home unbeaten run against Niger Tornadoes (Match Preview)

Match Preview : Katsina United vs Niger Tornadoes

Can Katsina United continue unbeaten home run?

Katsina United will on Sunday slug it out against Niger Tornadoes in one of the NPFL matchday 7 at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.

‘The Chanji Boys’ lost narrowly to fellow Northerners Yobe Desert Stars in the mid-week Matchday 6 via a 54th minute  goal by Chinedu Ohanachom at the August 27th Stadium in Damaturu.

Katsina United have since then returned home to start preparation in earnest ahead of the home clash against Niger Tornadoes.

‘The Chanji Boys’ will be going into this match with an unbeaten home record since they returned to the Nigeria elite league last year.

They have played 22 home games since 2017, they drew five and won 17 including the latest and famous 3 – 0 victory over Go-Round FC last month.

Tornadoes, on the other hand, lost their last match to Lobi Stars and could not play their last home match against Heartland FC due to the fact that Kogi State Government was using the stadium for an event.

The match has been postponed till February 7.

Team News

Dami Paul, Muhammed Hussaini and Chinedu Ajana are all doubtful for this encounter.

Dami Paul sustained a knee injury yesterday in the evening training and could not train with the rest of the team this morning.

Muhammed Hussaini, who could not make the trip to Yobe Desert due to a groin complaint, is yet to start training again.

Central defender Chinedu Ajana is still recovering from a knee injury he picked up in the last game against Yobe Desert Stars.

However, Katsina United squad has been boosted with the arrival of their last season’s highest goal scorer with 11 goals Chinedu Udechukwu, who returned to Katsina United camp last Sunday after the club had settled the uncertainty surrounding his future.

The want-away striker is now looking forward to play again soon.

Coach Abdullahi Biffo told on the availability of his big striker.

“Yes, it is true that Chinedu is back and we have started working on him, but I don’t think he will be ready for the tie against Tornadoes,” he said.

“Though, he looks sharp and ready in training throughout the week, but I don’t think he is physically fit for Sunday’s tie.

“Let’s wait and see how he improves before the game on Sunday.”

Biffo added that the three points against his former club is not negotiable

“We are ready for the game. They will come with everything at us, but we have equally prepared for them and the three points is not negotiable,” he stressed.

“It is a must-win game for my team to maintain our unbeaten home record.”

Previous Meeting

The two teams met last season in the Nigeria Professional Football League and Katsina United dominated both legs by playing out a 1–1 draw at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja and won the return leg 1-0 at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.

Nasiru Sani scored for Katsina United from the spot at the Confluence Stadium and Obinna Eleje scored the only goal in the return leg off a Destiny Ashadi assist.

League Standing

Katsina United are 10th on the league table despite suffering a 1 – 0 defeat to Yobe Desert Stars on Wednesday.

They have amassed seven points from six games played so far – won 2, drew 1 and lost 3.

Niger Tornadoes occupy 17th on the NPFL table with six points from five games. They have won two and lost three with a game at hand.
