No fewer than 30 inmates, mainly those imprisoned for minor offenses and debt-related cases, regained their freedom in Funtua Prison, Katsina State, over the weekend.
Wife of the state governor, Hadiza Aminu Bello Masari, secured the release of the inmates after settling their fines as part of her humanitarian services to people of Katsina and beyond.
Hajiya Hadiza cautioned the freed prisoners to desist from any act capable of either endangering the lives or property of others or leading them back to jail.
She, however, pleaded with other well-meaning members of the public to help in securing the release of more repentant inmates with minor cases, while expressing concern over the plights of the affected convicts.
In his remarks, the Comptroller of the prison, Lawal Idris Gusau, commended the governor’s wife for her kind gesture and called for more support of the state government.
