Car battery theft at the Katsina State Secretariat is increasing, causing uncertainty amongst civil servants and development partners, Daily Trust reports.

Our reporter gathered that hardly a day goes by without a battery theft report which is making motorists apprehensive after parking their vehicles.

Most affected are cars of civil servants, government vehicles and those of development partners operating in the state.

Disturbed by the trend, various mosques within the secretariat have embarked on sensitization of motorists on security and the thieves to fear Allah and change their evil ways.

An imam at the Ministry of Health, Hussaini Mohammed, said a team of concerned personnel formally reported the matter to the office of the secretary to the government of state with a view to
addressing the menace.

Meanwhile, a staff of the state radio service who spoke anonymously said about 16 cars parked at the radio house had their batteries stolen last month. He said the trend has become worrisome.

When contacted, the state police command spokesman, DSP Gambo Isah, assured that the command was doing its best to reduce crime, adding that failure to report cases as they occurred
hindered investigation processes.
