Katsina United and Kano Pillars battled to a 2-2 draw in the opening fixture of the 2018 Nigeria Professional Football League at the Mohammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina on Saturday, reports Completesportsnigeria (CSN).
Junior Lokossa stunned the home fans in the33rd minute, slotting the ball home after he was put through on goal by Victor Dennis.
The Sai Masu Gida stood firm despite spirited efforts by the hosts to get back into the game. Pillars were reduced to 10 men two minutes before the break when Dennis was sent off for a two-footed tackle on Eric Gwammy.
Katsina United levelled scores through Ajanachinedu Chukwujekwu, who nodded home Destiny Ashadi’s free kick in first half added time.
Pillars took the lead again in the 61st minute through Ibrahim Alhassan. Ashadi however ensured the home side earned a share of the spoils when he converted from the spot in the 95th minute.
It was Katsina United’s second penalty after Pillars goalkeeper Obiozor had initially saved one from Muhammed Hassaini in the 83rd minute.
Nine other games will be played across different centres on Sunday.
