Sen. Mustafah Bukar (APC), representing Katsina North Senatorial District, said he had so far secured the released of 60 detainees across the jail cells situated in Daura, Mani, Ingawa and Kankiya nearby local government areas.
Bukar disclosed this in a meeting with the newsmen in Daura on Tuesday.
He said the detainees who profited from the gesture were those who commit minor offenses and serving different jail facility terms and unfit to pay fines and get their freedom.
He said 15 prisoners were freed in each of the prison cells.
He said that his visit to prison began in 2016 and that he would expand the program to ensure that prisoners who submitted lesser offenses were freed and trained on professional abilities.
He said he had built a N82 million Skills Acquisition Center in Daura which would soon be put to use in training unemployed youths in the zone.
The Katsina North Senatorial District comprises Daura, Zango, Maiadua, Baure, Sandamu and Dutsi, Mashi, Mani, Kankiya, Ingawa, Bindawa and Kusada local government areas.
