The town of Funtua has on this week witnessed the infiltration of Alhaji Bello Mandiya’s posters. They were mostly pasted on public buildings in the downtown especially around the busiest  Funtua main roundabout.

Alhaji Bello Mandiya  is the latest addition on the long list of aspirants seeking to replace the incumbent, Abu Ibrahim, senator representing  Katsina South Senatorial District in the National assembly in the upcoming general election come February, 2019.

Mandiya, hailed from Malumfashi local Government, is the current Chief of Staff to the Katsina state Governor. He is seeking to contest on the platform of the ruling All Progressive Congress, the APC. His emergence has added weight on the already field up list of those vying for the position in the party.

The political climate suggest that the current occupier of the position, a third timer, Sen. Abu Ibrahim may likely not going to contest again but nursing an ambition to be appointed as minister in the President Buhari’s government. This paved way for many aspirant to jostle for the position. Whether Sen. Abu may contest come 2019 remain to be seen.

There were insinuations that Hon. Mandiya is the anointed candidate of Governor Masari given their close relationship. However, His Excellency is yet to make his position known and any talk in that regard would be considered as pure conjecture.

Alhaji Mandiya is very much on social media and there are a number of Facebook and WhatsApp groups with foot-soldiers dedicated to his cause.

The year 2019 general election is going to be very interesting.
