The Katsina state commissioner of women affairs Dr. Badiyya Hassan Mashi has called on the relevant stakeholders to compliment Governor Masari’s effort in fighting the menace of drug abuse among women and children in the state.

In view of the mandate to fight drug abuse among women in Katsina, the commissioner for women affairs brings together stakeholders to the roundtable to discuss the drivers of drug abuse in Katsina, identify the psycho-social and medical impact of the phenomenon, assess current responses and opportunities for action.

The roundtable is part of efforts to tackle the rising spate of drug and substance abuse by women including children and to end its prevalence in the state.

Consequently, the commissioner mandated the Committee to investigate the growing menace of abuse of cough syrup and other prescriptive drugs by women in the state.

The stakeholders include; the state National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), The state ministry of women affairs, government officials, medical doctors, pharmacist, NGO’s, traditional rulers and religious leaders amongst other relevant stakeholders.

The commissioner also flag-off a campaign rally the menace titled #Mother Say No To Drug abuse which according to her will scheduled to hold 9th January 2018.

Dr. Badiyya, however, appealed to the public and other relevant agencies to participate in the rally that will kick off by 10:00 am.
