The Katsina state government has identified 444 mining sites across the 34 local government areas of the state.
The state commissioner for resource development Mustapha Kanti Bello revealed this while defending the Ministry’s 2018 budget before the state house of assembly committee on appropriation.
The commissioner said the sites were captioned during data collection survey on mining sites conducted by the ministry.
Mr. Kanti, however, lamented that majority of mining activities are being practiced illegally depriving the state internally generated revenue.
He said the revenue linkages prompted the ministry to embark on massive sensitization campaign, set up committees in the 34 local government areas.
On the 2018 budget proposal, Mustapha Kanti said the ministry earmarks N510 million for capital projects with the largest share of N380 million for mining exploration.
