Katsina state government has inaugurated a 10-man committee members to work on dates to conduct Local government election in the state.
It would be recalled that the last local government elections held in the state was in 2014 but were dissolved owing to alleged misappropriation of funds and the dissolved chairmen took the matter to an Appeal Court sitting in Kaduna to challenge the dissolution and expected to come up on 9th to 17th November, 2017.
Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State while inaugurating the 10-man members said the committee is given three weeks to submit it reports on the conduct of the local government elections. Governor Masari who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa said the committee is to come up with recommendations to guide the state government in the conduct of the Local government election in the state.
According to him, “To study the report of the stakeholders meeting with the Governor and advise the government particularly on the issue of conduct ofLocal government council election in the state. “Advise the state government on how best to conduct the Local governmentelection with given time frame or election date in accordance with the law. “To study or review the report of the advisory committee on the conduct ofLocal government council election of 2016,” Governor Masari said.
The committee has the SGS, Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa as it Chairman, while other members were Special Adviser (Political), State Independent Electoral Comission (Chairman), Ministries of Justice, Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, and state APC Chairman as well as representatives from Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Commissioner of Police, Department of State Security Services, DSS and the Governor’s office as the Secretariat.
