The National Association of Library and Information Science Students (NALISS) of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University Katsina has trained 100 of its members on computer literacy and skills.
This was made known to katsinapost.com.ng by the President of the Association Comrade Ahmad Kuki on Thursday at the Association’s event tagged 3rd NALISS WEEK.
Comrade Kuki shared that the Association under his watch has recorded tremendous achievements which includes the following : establishment of Departmental Library (Resource Room) under the custody of the Association’s Librarian, produced 1st NALISS plastic I.D’s for its executives, organizing of Annual Orientation Programme, introduction of tutorial classes for the students of the department, organised the first ever excursion to the Kaduna State House of Assembly’s Library, NARIC, NTI and Television and Radio Nigeria, establishment of Information Center tagged ‘Infortech Computer Laboratory’ with 40 No. computer capacity and well equipped projector devices, participating in National Debate Competition organized by NALISS BUK chapter, organizing of NALISS inter-departmental sports competition and also the launching of the first Almanac Calendar of the Association.
The event graced the presence of Majidadin Madawakin Katsina, Alhaji Sani Lawal BK (cna) who was the Chief Launcher of the Almanac, the University’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Idris Isah Funtua, Deans, HODs and other lecturers of the university.
Other special dignitaries at the event includes the District Head of Batagarawa Alhaji MD Dalhatu (Mallamawan Katsina), Alhaji Sada Nuhu Kuki, Dr. Babangida Umar Dangani (FUDMA), Aminu Mahmud Yuguda, Binyaminu Hamisu Yar’adua, Comrade Yusuf Umar Usman (also from FUDMA).
Two papers were presented at the event by the Head of Library and Information Science Department, Dr. Lawal Iro Sani : “Impact of Social Media in the Provision of Library services” and the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Dr. Sani Abdu Fari on “Ethics in Information Work”.
The President in his thanksgiving remarks, commend the support he have been given by the Head of Department and as well from his co-executives. Saying that, it’s their apt support that made all these dreams reliable.
In a remark also, Dr. Sulaiman Sani Kankara who is the Dean Students Affairs of the university; urged the NALISS executives to collaborate with the department of Mathematics and Computer Science in order to provide and inventory of projects and thesis for record purpose.
While bidding farewell to the attendees of the event, Dr. Muhammad Tukur Lawal-the NALISS coordinator, expressed his satisfaction with the way the outgoing excos discharged their duties and displayed a very good sense of maturity. He wished them Allah’s guidance in all their future endeavors.
