The Katsina State Government has demonstrated enthusiasm to continue with the ‘Women for Health program’, giving its effect on the the health sector especially at the rural areas.

The five-year program, supported by UK help was executed in five northern states, in particular Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Yobe and Zamfara. The main aim of the program is to expand the quantity of female health specialists and support their deployment to rural health facilities.

The Katsina Team Leader, W4H, Hafsat Musa Baba in a chat with Daily Trust during the presentation of empowerment to some students, said about 369 people had benefited so far in the programme.
She said 203 women were at various levels of studies at health institution just as 51 had passed out and serving their communities.
Baba said since its inception, health care delivery had improved at the grassroots with more women getting better services from their female counterparts. “Many people don’t feel comfortable with males treating their wives but for now we are closing that gap,” he said, adding, “Already, memorandum of understanding has been entered between the programme and the state government with a view to taking up most of its activities. We are rounding up very soon.”
