UMYUK student death: University management narrates how it all happened


The management of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University Katsina has finally respond to the death of spill over student from the Department of Economics, Miss Zainab Umar .

According to the management Zainab Umar was bitten by a snake on Friday 13 October ,2017 around 08:00pm when she went out with two of her friends towards the area leading to university first gate which is closer to the girls hostel.

Instantly, Miss Zainab was taken to the university clinic by security guards ,where she was administered an anti venom anti serum ( polyvalent ) , pain relievers and anti biotics while admitted at the clinic.

More so , Zainab was later referred to the General Amadi Rimi Specialist Hospital known as “orthopedic” Katsina around 05:00am on Saturday, where she was further attended to and discharge back to the university clinic to continue with the treatment.

The university said, some of late Zainab friends decided to take her home Dandume for traditional treatment. The Deen Student Affairs who was around advised them against that and the friends phoned late Zainab mother and the Deen convinced her to let Miss Zainab stay and continue with treatment, which  she agreed.

According to management, later in the day , the Deen went back to check on late Zainab health status and was informed that her friends took her home. Against medical advise from the university clinic.

Management confirmed that, Miss Zainab died on Sunday 15 October, 2017 at her home town Dandume local government area of Katsina state. On Monday 16 October 2017 the university received the shocking news of the passing away of Miss Zainab Umar in the early hours.

The management of Yar’adua expresses it heartfelt condolences to the family of late Zainab and entire University community. Also management appeals to the general public to always verify news before spreading it,as such may course public unrest.
