Katsina Women journalists mobilises women to fight rising rape cases

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Katsina State Branch has today visited Daura Local Government in continuation of their state-wide campaign to sensitise women on protective measures against rape.

According to the Chairperson of the Association, Hajiya Hauwa Yalladan the campaign was part of the association’s efforts to highlight the dangers of rape in the society and also empower women on how to protect themselves against what she called the ‘rising menace of rape’ in the society.

Katsina Post checks revealed that the state-wide campaign team includes women Islamic preachers, police representatives, health workers and women from ministry of justice.

In her remarks, Hajiya Yalladan urges parent to be more vigilant and also monitor the movement of their daughters.

Also, the state’s Secretary to the Government who was ably represented by his press secretary Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu ‘Yar’adua advised people to fear Allah as rape is a monumental crime in Islam.

Among the dignitaries that attended the programme are the Representative of the Emir of Daura, representative of Local Government chairman of Daura and many rural women.

It could be recalled that similar event was organised last week in Kaita LGA.
