The Katsina State House of Assembly has amended the State Local  Government Law, 2012, by extending the tenure of local government chairmen by one year: from two to three years.
Equally, the assembly has introduced qualification to the power of the governor on appointing a transition committee or sole administrators subject to the confirmation of the house.
This was part of the report submitted to the house by its local government and chieftaincy committee that deliberated on the bill.
Presenting the report on the floor of the house, Garba Dankanjiba said the report was carefully written, taking into cognizance the need of the people.
After deliberations, the report was finally adopted and the Deputy Speaker, Engr. Shehu Tafoki, who presided at the sitting, directed the clerk to produce a clean copy and submit to the governor for signing.
Daily Trust reports that the amendment of the bill is a clear signal to the constitution of local government administration of the 34 local government areas of the state, which had been without exco for close to two years.
