The President of the Nigerian Polo Federation; the Emir of Katsina Alhaji Abdulmuminu Kabir Usman has decried over negligence shown by Nigerian Government in funding polo games in the country.

The Emir made the revelation on Thursday, when the newly elected President of Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) Mr. Francis Obi paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Katsina accompanied by the management of Golden Star Badminton Club Katsina (GSK).

The Emir said the Nigerian government had shelved polo games without given it due considerations in terms of funding and sponsorship.

“The worse part of it let me blow my mind now. We were previously Nigerian Polo Association (NPA) affiliated to United Kingdom that recently transformed to Nigerian Polo Federation by Federal government.

“To our dismay, instead of Nigerian government to come to our aid in terms of funding and sponsorship like football and other games but unfortunately we were left aside.

“Since the federation of the polo we received nil support from Federal Ministry of Sport, if that is the case why are we federated?

“We all know Polo is the most expensive game on earth virtually no government can afford its sponsorship but at lease Nigerian government should have knew even before federating Polo.

“Most of the league we played are being sponsored by private individuals without single kobo from federal government.

“The Sport Minister shun us as he failed to at least send a delegation from sport ministry during polo league season, which is discouraging. He laments

“Why are we federated if government cannot afford to sponsor polo in Nigeria? This is my question to the sport minister.

The Emir continued when he said the sport minister is answerable to the issues raised adding that the federation of Polo games in Nigeria is futile if government had failed to address problems facing the game.

Earlier, in his address, the President of BFN expressed happiness over the warm reception by the emirate council which he described Katsina state as true Home of Heritage and Hospitality. Adding that he was at the emir’s palace to seek for fatherly advice and prayers to enable him discharge his duties judiciously.
