The special Adviser to the Governor Aminu Bello Masari on Girl child education, Hajiya Binta Abba announced that 10,348 food vendors are taking part to feed 860,492 public primary school pupils across the state.

Hajiya Binta Abba explained that the home grown feeding programme would not only empower women to reduce poverty level, increase annual enrollment of pupils, retention of pupils in schools but would provide nutritional food ,increase agricultural produce and enhance economic activities.

Also, the Katsina state Governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari is the person that declared opened the one day zonal sanitization and health training for food vendors in Katsina.

Speaking during the training held at Muhammad Dikko stadium, Katsina, the Governor noted that the school home grown feeding programme would help to improve the wellbeing of women, especially widows and divorcees in the state.

Alhaji Aminu Masari explained that the aftermath of wars,disasters, crises and calamities mostly affects women, who were left with children, especially as their husbands are maimed or killed in process or men run away for safety.

In such circumstances, the Governor noted that some of the men too fled such crises  leaving behind women to take care of homes.   This,Alhaji Aminu Masari said informed the decision by the APC led administration at all levels to introduce various programmes to improve the lots of vulnerable people in the society.

The Governor envisaged that the school home grown feeding programme would be an added impetus in enhancing enrollment drive to reduce out of school pupils on the streets in the state.

He appealed to the beneficiary food vendors to utilize the opportunity offered by the programme to improve their income and assist towards the success of the programme .

Highlight of the occasion was a drama staged by Nayalli Drama group on the importance of the home grown feeding programme in the state.
