No fewer than 30 intending pilgrims who had initially paid the deposit of N1 million collected back their money due to their inability pay the balance of N500,000 in Daura Local Government of Katsina State. 

This is also as no fewer than 175 intending pilgrims from Daura Local Government Area in Katsina State are expected to perform the 2017 Hajj in Saudi Arabia.

Alhaji Lawal Nababa, the Hajj Officer in the council said in Daura on Thursday that the 175 slots allocated to it by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) had been filled.

He said that the orientation of the intending pilgrims on the rudiments of Hajj would begin by next week.

Nababa said his office in collaboration with the state Pilgrims Welfare Board had engaged the services of knowledgeable Islamic preachers to conduct the exercise.

“The orientation and enlightenment would last for four weeks,’’ the official said.

He said that the screening of the intending pilgrims was ongoing by security agents that include Nigerian Immigration Service, Department of State Security and the Police.

According to Nababa, the intending pilgrims would also be subjected to the normal medical checks and pregnancy tests to determine their medical fitness before being allowed to travel to the Holy Land.

He said that NAHCON had announced July 30 as commencement date for the airlift of intending pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.

The Daura zonal pilgrims office, comprised of six local government areas, was allocated 544 Hajj slots by the state pilgrims board for the 2017 Hajj out of which 456 were taken.
