Katsina SOML: Ministry of health trains health personnels on quality of care and installation of nets

The Katsina State Ministry of health under the programme of Saving One Million Lives (SOML) has offered a one day training of health personnels on the quality of care and installation of mosquito nets.

The training programme was conducted on Tuesday, 20th of June in the Katsina State Local Government Service Commission and draws five (5) participants from each of the State health facilities in Katsina state.

During the training the participants were trained practically on how to best handle the Long Live Insecticides Nets (LLIN) and its installation in order to avoid any unwanted reaction.

The participants were informed that LLINets will be supplied to their facilities for onward distribution to children under five (5) years of age FREE of charge.

Alsoo, the State’s Honourable Commissioner of Health Hajiya Mariyatu Bala Usman took time to explain the SOML project to the participants.

The Commissioner stated that the Federal Government of Nigeria in collaboration with World Bank secured a loan of $400m in order to workout ways and execute programmes that will save the lives of atleast 1million Nigerians from dying out of which Katsina State got a sum of $1.5million (N450million).

The commissioner further said: “The project in Katsina will be base on some 6 cardinal pillars”

The six (6) cardinal pillars according to her includes: Improving Maternal, Newborn and Child Health,

Improving routine immunization coverage and achieving polio eradication, Elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV, Scaling up access to essential medicines and commodities, Malaria control and Improving child nutrition.

Highlights of the occasion includes the lectures delivered by Director Primary Health Care of the State Primary Health Care Agency Dr. Shamsuddeen Yahaya, DPRS Pharm. Sulaiman Gachi as well as DMSC, SMoh Sister Binta Husaini.
