The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina and its candidate Nazif Yusuf in the Mashi/Dutsi House of Representatives bye-election have filed a petition before the National and state Houses of Assembly election tribunal challenging the election of All Progressive Congress candidate, Mansir Mashi. Joined in are suit are the Independent National Electoral Commission, Resident Electoral Commissioner and the All Progressive Congress Party (APC) as 2nd, 3rd and 4th respondents respectively.
A copy of the petition with No. EPT/KT/NA/HR/01/2017 obtained by Daily trust showed that the PDP is challenging the election on four grounds namely, that the 1st respondent (Mansir Mashi) was not duly elected by majority of lawful votes cast at the election; that the election was invalid by reason of non-compliance with the provisions of the electoral act which has substantially affected the result of the election.
It reads: “Others are that the election has not been concluded and that the result of the election as declared by the Returning Officer is inconclusive as well as seeking an order directing the 2nd and 3rd respondents to conduct the election in the polling units that were not included in the collation of the results.
“And that results obtained be added to the already collated results in forms EC8b(II), EC8C (II) , EC 8D (II) and EC 8E (II) before the final declaration of the winner” it added.
