Katsina United pipped champions Enugu Rangers to shoot higher on the NPFL table yesterday.

‘The Changi Boys’ now have 19 points from 14 matches.

Defender Timothy Danladi was the match winner for home team after just six minutes, when he converted a penalty after Rangers skipper Chibuzor Madu handled the ball inside his box.

Rangers fought back for a leveler, but they met a resolute Katsina defence well marshaled by the highly experienced Ado Ali.

At the start of the second half, big striker Chinedu Udechukwu could have doubled Katsina’s lead, but he failed to.

Christian Madu of Rangers then took charge of the midfield as the visitors fought to get back into this contest.

Coach Baldwin Bazuaye tried to step up his attack when he replaced Mustapha Bello with Obinna Eleje.

In the 70th, injured Rangers goalkeeper Itodo Akor was forced out of the game to be replaced by the Ghanaian Nana Bonsu.

The visitors continued to mount pressure, but Katsina United held out to record three crucial points.

Katsina United: Yinka David – Isah, Ado Ali, Timothy Danladi, Eric Gwammy – Usman Barau, Garuba, Ashadi Destiny, Mustapha (Obinna Eleje) – Chinedu Udechuwu (Joseph Adah), Musa Suleman ‘Ronaldo’

Subs: Dami Paul, Kingsley Ajero, Frank Kappe, Ibrahim Suleman, Ahmed Abdulkarim
