An early morning fire has destroyed property worth N25 million in Daura town, Daura Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Alhaji Abdulmumini Shu’aibu, the Officer-in-Charge of the Daura Local Government Fire Service, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Daura.
Shu’aibu said the inferno occurred on Wednesday morning and was immediately reported to the department by the victims. He said the fire destroyed residential buildings and other valuables, adding that, “our quick response to the incident had greatly saved the situation’’. He, however, said that no life was lost during the incident“The areas affected by the inferno are: Gidan Telaand Zango road in the city,”he said.
Shuaibu blamed the outbreak on the use of substandard electrical cables and negligence by occupants of residential buildings, among other factors.According to him, the city has experienced 6 different fire outbreaks in the last two months, though no loss of life was recorded.
He advised residents of the area to adhere to the International Electrical Regulation (IEE) in purchasing electrical cables for use in their buildings to avoid fire outbreaks.
Alhaji Salisu Haro,the Information Officer of Daura Local Goverment Council, told NAN that the council was working out modalities to render assistance to the victims.
Haro said the Interim Administrator of the council, Alhaji Lawal Kado, had sympathised with the victims and pledged immediate assistance for them. (NAN)
