The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Police Command, Usman Abdullahi, said on Friday that properties worth N52, 152,295 had been lost to crimes in the state in the past 11 months.

The CP said the command was also able to recover properties worth N20,540,693 within the same period.

Usman made the revelation in Katsina, the capital, when the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 1, Adamu Ibrahim, paid a visit to the command.

The CP revealed that 1,027 cases were reported to the police in the period under review, leading to the arrest of 1,720 suspects.

He added that 721 cases were being prosecuted in various courts in the state.

The police commissioner explained that as part of efforts to tackle cattle rustling in the state, the command set up 19 anti-cattle rustling operational camps at the periphery of the Rugu Forest, extending from Jibia, Batsari, Safana, Damusa, Kankara, Faskari, Dandume, Sabuwa and Dutsinma Local Government areas of the state, with 290 officers and men managing the camps.

Usman told the AIG that even though the police command was ready to put in its best to fight crime, it is facing some challenges, among which are inadequate personnel and equipment.

The AIG urged officers and men of the command to pay attention to their health and also to be scientific in their approach while fighting crime and also respect the fundamental human rights of people.
