It could be recalled that, Nova Solar Power, a developer based in Casablanca, Morocco has started the  construction of a 125 MW solar plant in Katsina, Nigeria. According to local news portal The Union, the company has signed a Public Private Partnership Agreement (PPPA) with the Katsina State government for the project.

Nova Solar Power was acquired by French renewable energy company Global EcoPower (GEP) in February 2015. At the time, GEP said that Nova Power had signed an agreement with French oil company Total, which owns a majority stake in US solar producer and developer SunPower Corp., for the development of PV projects with a combined capacity of 500 MW in Nigeria. The projects include the PV plant in Katsina and two more projects, which will have a capacity of 125 MW and 150 MW, respectively, and will be developed at a later stage. Another 100 MW will be installed in the following years. The company has other smaller projects under development in Morocco and the Ivory Coast.
