Breaking News: Katsina Assembly passes law to establish ‘State Fiscal Responsibility Commission’

On Monday, November 7th, 2016 Katsina State House of Assembly has Passed a Law to provide for the Establishment of Fiscal Responsibility Commission.

The Bill was Sponsored by The Hon. Deputy Speaker Shehu Dalhatu Tafoki Member Representing Faskari Constituency.

It could be recalled in July, KATSINA POST reported that Katsina State House of Assembly has organised a public  hearing on the proposed laws for the establishment of the ‘Bureau for public procurement’ and ‘State Fiscal Responsibility Commission’.

The hearing was conducted on the directive of the leadership of the house after adopting the two (2) bills sponsored by Hon. Shehu Dalhatu Tafoki (representing Faskari LG) and Hon. Abdullahi Mahuta (representing Malumfashi LG) respectively.

The public hearing was conducted under the supervision of the  deputy speaker of the house Hon. Shehu Dalhatu Tafoki who is also the chairman committee on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and special services.

Hon. Tafoki said during the public hearing that the laws when passed will among other things introduced and improved prudent management of public resources in addition to ensuring greater transparency and accountability in procurement process.

The Deputy speaker also expressed his joy over the participation of Non-governmental organisations, civil society organisations and other stakeholders in the state’s legislative process which according to him clearly attested to the fact that citizens are becoming wiser and more informed with how they are being governed more than ever before.

In another related development, Katsina State House of Assembly committee on Ecological fund and environment said they will enquire from the stakeholders of the ecological fund matters on the state of the ecological fund of the state.

The speaker of the House, Alhaji Aliyu Sabi’u Muduru announced the house resolution after the house unanimously endorsed a motion presented before it by the House committee chairman on Ecological fund and environment, Yakubu Sulaiman Tsanni a member representing Batagarawa.

In the motion, he seeks for the house indulgence to summons those responsible for managing the funds in the state.

He said: “Mr Speaker and my colleagues, with reference to the section 8 sub section 1a and b; and section 129 and sub section 1a and c, I want this house to summons the Commissioners of Finance, Environment, Local government and chieftaincy affairs and Accountant General of the state to appear before the house so as to clarify all the gray areas and also why these monies of the funds where not been paid for long.”
