It is really always challenging to practice journalism not only in a society or community where the level of reading habit is quite low among its youth, but also every where around the world. It is a profession known to be risky, regardless of the type of journalism you are into or the location you are practicing it. This is so, for it is not a profession for lazy people, as it demands energy, perseverance, tolerance, patience, research and many more resources to make you a good and reliable journalist. As such, it has never been an issue in journalism, when other negative forces of the very society you serve as a journalist, hunt you.

Many Nigerian dailies have one or more cases in court of law about individuals and organizations accusing them of one thing or the other. As such, it is never unusual to face some level of public harassment, because many people will always see it as a threat when you publish their information that they are not ready to share with the public. It is the price that every journalist must pay, so long he/she wants to develop a carrier in that aspect of  life. Therefore, I call on Jamilu Mabai to tight his belt, as many of such challenges will keep on coming to his way, so long he continues to do great, in his carrier as young man that sees a future in journalism.

For almost a week or so, I have been reading posts on social media regards to the CEO of Cliqq Magazine that he will be charged to court for alleged defamation of character by the General Public in Katsina State. There were counter posts also from the management of  Cliqq Magazine, asking for a genuine evidence regards to this accusation and also bad publicity they are accused of.

It is really disappointing when I realized that the people that claimed to be acting on behalf of  the public, were more interested in denting the personality of this young journalist than countering whatever they claimed he might have published that defamed the character of whomever they are defending. In a more civilize society, people don’t attack the character of a journalist rather they counter his/her false publication about the society with real information, facts and evidence. I wonder what will benefit them from ruin the name of this young and abled  journalist and his magazine?

Before the saga of this defamation of character started, Cliqq Magazine has been forefront in publicizing the achievements, good dreams and aspirations of the present administration of Aminu Bello Masari. Why couldn’t the so called general public do him justice in this regard, even if what they are accusing him of, truly exist? We should learn to do people justice, for anyone can be victim of same public or circumstances, someday, from these kind of unguarded accusations.

All I see in Jamilu Mabai, is a young journalist with a brighter future that holds the promises of  good journalism, which the general public of Katsina State will someday be proud to have nurtured. Therefore, stand still and continue to be strong Jamilu, for many times challenges make us stronger than before. Do not let your good dream of journalism, die  with these myopic thinkers, who do not see the beauty of what you are doing and encourage you, rather they sabotage your effort with the aim of distracting you from the great course you have taken, out of envy and hatred of your Entrepreneurial spirit. All in the name of seeking notification by the person they are trying to please, in displeasing others who do not share the same sentiments with them.

Moreover, be rest assured that the General Public is solidly behind you, Jamilu Mabai and your reliable magazine. We will continue to unconditionally support you and the great work of Cliqq Magazine until the whole Public understands how blissful they are, to have you as a member of the society. Long live Cliqq Magazine and Long live Katsina State.

  1. wonder never end! I’m totally surprised after reading a post by one Aminu Bishir on facebuk regarding the arrest & detention of Jamilu Mabai & CO. he even went 2 d extent of advising people to let the LAW decide. i’ve some few questions for us to answer
    DO WE TRUST OUR POLICE?
DO WE TRUST OUR JUDICIAL SYSTEM?
IS THE GOVERNMENT TO BE TRUSTED?
will they treat the case the same way if it happens to their own children. many people are in the habit tarnishing d image of his excellency, especially ladies. none of them are arrested by the police. IS THIS FAIR???
