I am not the first to be Arrested I won’t be the last; As Former Governor Shema Denies EFCC Report
Former Katsina state governor Ibrahim Shema has denied the report that he ignores EFCC invitations as reported by the agency on its social media which declared him wanted.
We recalled that the agency published his wanted report on Wednesday 14th September, 2016 via the agencies Facebook page accusing him of money laundering and other related offences.
The former governor expressed dismay over the fake report on an interview with BBC. He further told the media that “In December last year the agency sent an invitation to me but my lawyers demand the reason behind the invitation but couldn’t get any answer from the agency”
“Then I was re-invited again while I was in London…..but when I come back to Nigeria I received the invitation and asked the agency to fix time for the meeting; he said. The meeting was rescheduled to 28th July during which is fasting period. On the exact stipulated date I called my lawyer and later met him in Abuja were we honored the invitation at 10am as scheduled; unfortunately we heard that the officials assigned to handle my case has travelled to Calabar.
The former governor said since that period I didn’t received any information about the new date. Even though, my lawyer wrote several letters to the EFCC demanding that the new date to be fix on 28th August, 2016. Yet I didn’t receive any further information from the agency since the period of our first appearance.
“what I only heard on Wednesday 14th September was the EFCC officials surrounded my house while I was away, searched in and snapped various corners at around 1pm- which later published on its page declaring me wanted because I dishonored their invitation severally’’ says the ex-governor.
However the former Katsina state governor said he is not the first person to be apprehended by EFCC and I will not be last.
