A primary school teacher in Katsina, Umaru Bala Kofar Sauri, was yesterday kidnapped with his abductors demanding N500,000 ransom, a family spokesman, Sa’ada Bala said.
Kofar Sauri, who teaches at Mairuwa Primary School in Funtua Local Government Area, is believed to have been abducted along Funtua- Zaria road. Aged 36, Kofar Sauri is married with two children.
Speaking with Daily Trust in Katsina yesterday, Sa’ada, an older sister of the teacher, said the kidnappers had reached out, asking for ransom for his release.
According to her, they threatened to double the amount demanded if by today the family fails to comply.
“Kofar Sauri had remained unreachable until around 7pm Sunday when his line went through and we got to know of the situation,’’ she said.
The state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Suwudi Hassan Dayi who also confirmed the development, described it as unfortunate and assured that as a union, everything possible would be done to ensure his release. Efforts to get the police to comment on the matter proved abortive.
It could be recalled that KATSINA POST has earlier reported that the newly appointed Katsina State commissioner of Police Usman Abdullahi has called on Katsina State residents to be more vigilant and assist security agents with intelligence reports in order to address the social vices in the state including the rampant kidnappings.
