Katsina: ‘Indefinite’ Strike looms as health workers about to reject salary slash

Following the slashing of health workers salary due to the removal of CONHESS as directed by the Katsina State Governor Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari, the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHUN) -Katsina State Chapter slated wednesday for an emergency meeting.

It is believed that the meeting will be conveyed to discuss the removal of CONHESS allowances in their salaries and subsequently take decision.

According to LEADERSHIP “Salary differentials in the state especially the implementation of Consolidated Health Salary Scale (CONHESS) has been subject of controversy with allegations that a lot of staffers who should not benefit from the package were illegally made beneficiaries.

Disturbed by the scenario, the state government directed for immediate suspension of bank payments and salary differentials to LG and Local Education Authorities (LEA) staffs.

Governor Aminu Masari said the government would resume payment of salary differentials after the screening to ascertain those genuinely qualified to benefit from the allowance.”

However, few days after government directed for payment of June salaries to LG staff, including their counterparts in the Primary Health Care (PHC), using consolidated public sector salary scale (CONPUSS), scores of health personnel have continued to grumble.

An official of the medical and health workers union told our correspondent that the union has fixed its emergency meeting for Wednesday where it hoped to take a stand concerning the suspension of CONHESS.”
