Katsina State Government has reiterated its determination to fish-out ghost workers in local government service.

The commissioner for local governments and chieftaincy affairs -Alhaji Abdulkadir Ahmad Zakka stated this while conducting the staff screening exercise for three (3) local governments in Daura zone.

The commissioner who is also the chairman of the screening committee said the staff are being screened before they will be given May salary in Nine (9) (three from each zone) out of the 34 local governments of the state. He said the mode of payment will be ‘tabled’.

According to him, this is being done in order to fish out the unpatriotic citizens that usually add ghost workers on the government payroll.

The commissioner added that every staff in the selected local governments must have to present his/her original documents which comprises of staff I’d card, appointment later and also state his work schedule among others before he qualified for the payment.

Also commenting on the exercise, the head of Mai’adua local government administration -Alhaji Sade Abdu Zango said the exercise came at the right time and it will enable the state government to know the actual work force of the local governments.

However, cross sections of staff interviewed by KATSINA POST and prefer anonymity, expressed their dismay and anger over the exercise. Most of them saying the exercise is causing unnecessary delay of their salary and making them suffer especially in now that Ramadan is approaching.

Some of them had also expressed reservation as they say it is another way the government official will use to short-change them their money unlike banks that will credit accounts with even kobos.
