Katsina United have promised to build on their opening day 0-0 with FC  Yarmalight in Gombe as they begin to prepare for their first home game against Sokoto United.

Katisna United against all odds held FC Yarmalight to 0-0 draw on Sunday thereby starting the ongoing Nigeria National League season on a promising note.

In a chat with Daily Trust, the chairman of the club, Alhaji Aminu Balele Kurfi said if not for the questionable officiating, his team would have run away with the maximum points.

He said even though his team managed to score a goal, for inexplicable reasons, it was disallowed when the assistant referee insisted it was not a goal.

Kurfi said “Although we played 0-0 with our opponents, FC Yarmalight, we had the upper hand in the match. We played better and deserved the three points but the match officials did not provide a level playing field.

“In fact we scored a beautiful goal but for reasons best known to the referees, they disallowed the goal. The home team did everything to win but my boys persevered and in the end, we shared the spoils.

“The commencement of the second half was delayed for minutes because the referees refused to come out. They said they were being harassed and intimidated.”

The Senior Special Assistant on sports to Katsina State governor, however, said that match is now history so his team is fully focused on their next match against visiting Katsina United.

“That match has come and gone. We have to move on to the next match. Our next game is against Sokoto United. We shall build on the away result to pick the three points.

“We have to give our fans something to celebrate when we play our first league match at home as Katsina United,” he noted.

Katsina United was formerly known as Spotlights FC.
