Al-Qalam University Held Maiden Convocation For Her 7 Graduated Sets As 22 Graduated With 1st Class
Al-Qalam University has held its maiden convocation ceremony of its seven (7) graduated sets of the institution. The event also witnessed the official installation of Alhaji Aminu Dantata as the University chancellor of the university by the Grand Patron of the university and the Emir of Kano Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi. He was also confered with an honoury doctorate degree on business administration.
In his acceptance speech, the pioneer chancellor of the university -Alhaji Dantata pledge to do his best in supporting the institution and enjoined all stake holders towards supporting the present administration in reviving the education sector. According to him “we should not rely entirely on government, we should support it”.
Also speaking during the event, the pro chancellor of the university and its chairman governing body, Alhaji Sani Zangon Daura highlighted some of the contributions of Alhaji Dantata to the development of the institution which includes the construction of classes, offices and female hostels worth one billion naira (N1billion). He also enjoined the graduates to be good ambassadors of the university.
On his part, the vice chancellor of the university -Alhaji Shehu Ado Garki stated that the convocation provides a unique opportunity to celebrate excellence. According to him, “1678 graduates are involved in the ceremony, out of this figure, 22 are with first class, 400 in the second class upper, 916 in the second class lower, 322 are in the third class while 18 graduates are in the pass degree.
The vice chancellor also stated that the institution started with only 236 students in 2005 but now burst with a population of 5000 students and 187 academic staff.
Highlights of the occasion include the award honoury doctorate degrees to some important personalities that include Jijjani BabaTunde, Isyaku Umar Tofa and Late Khadi Usman Muhammad Daura.
