Katsina state has now been declared free from Lassa fever. The permanent secretary of the ministry of health Dr. Kabir Mustapha confirmed this during a press briefing with news men in the state on the follow-up investigation carried out by the ministry.
Dr. Kabir Mustapha said the blood samples of all the suspected persons were taken for tests out of which only 6 were found to be containing the disease while the rest are negative.
He added that the six (6) cases were isolated at Babbar-ruga isolation centre for medical treatment and have now fully recovered and being discharged.
The Permanent Secretary therefore confirmed the state to be free from Lassa Fever.
In his own words “….and we’re glad to inform you that all the persons with the disease have fully recovered and now being discharged”.
KATSINA POST recalled that two (2) people imported the disease in the state -one, an indegine of Kankara LG who was admitted at the Federal Medical Centre Katsina and the other one from Abuja in which all of them have since died.
